Biography : " Abraham Brokaw was born in Somerset Co., New Jersey as was Judith Davis, a daughter of George and Judith (Brokaw) Davis, and were cousins.  Date of marriage is that of marriage bond.  It may be that this Abraham Brokaw was the one who advertised in the New York Mercury," on May 7, 1759, property described, thus - "This is to give notice that there is to be sold by the subscriber hereof, a good plantation, situate, lying and being on the southerly side of the Raritan River in the County of Somerset and Province of East New Jersey, containing 200 acres of land and about 120 of the same cleared, and about four or five acres cleared for mowing, the whole exceeding good land, and more meadow to be cleared.  Has on the premises a very good dwelling house, cellar, a very good kitchen, with a good Dutch cupboard.  All the aforesaid buildings entirely new."  "A young orchard containing 120 acres." - etc.  It is known that he left Somerset Co., N.J. and went to Sussex Co., for a time.  Then in about 1788-19 they went to Western Pa., then resided a short time in Fayette Co., and later, to Washington Co., Pa. where he died in Cross Creek Twp., and buried in the Cross Creek cemetery.  (G.S.)       "An abstract deed between John Brown, of the County of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, and Uphen, his wife, of the one part and Abraham Brokaw of the County of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, of the other part, a certain tract or piece of land lying and being on the waters of Cross Creek in Cross Creek Township, aforesaid, being part of land patented to Joseph Rylie," it goes on to say that Rylie, on Nov. 17, 1790, sold this land to John Brown (recorded in Bk. 9 'or G', pp 52-53.)  For the sum of 300 lbs lawful money of Pennsylvania, John Brown and Uphen, his wife, acknowledge payment in full for said land, beginning at a white oak, thence by land of Thomas Marquis, thence by land of Alexander Wells, thence by land of William Smith, thence by land of James Nichols, thence by land of George Wells, thence by land of Richard  Wells, containing 213 1/4 acres sold to Abraham Brokaw.  Was signed by John Brown (his seal) and Uphen Brown (her mark).  Witnesses were Henry and John Graham.  Recorded and compared with the original, 6th Feb., 1797.  A copy, photostatic, from the original, at Court House, in Washington, Washington Co., Pa. was made and Mrs. Nancy Brokaw Ebeling of Wheeling, W. Va., a descendent contributed. 
      In the will of Abraham Brokaw, dated Nov. 1804 and proved Feb. 9, 1810, wherein he mentioned wife, Judith, and children George, Abraham, and Sarah and four of the deceased children of his son, Johannes, as Daniel, Peter, Isaac and Caty and an Isaac Berry.  No date of death of Judith has ever been found.  (Refs. - family records by descendants.: and NYG & B Rec. v. 86, p. 110.)"2
